Bicentenary Pipeband Championship
In 2001, the year of Helensburgh’s Bi-Centenary several local groups were asked to organise an event which would meet the criteria for the Bi-Centenary grant monies provided by Argyll & Bute Council and for that event to continue in the years after the Bi-centenary.
Among the events which took place was the pipe band competition which is now the only one that has continued each year since the bi-centenary.
The event has developed and grown over the years and now has approximately 30 pipe band performances and between 100-200 highland dancers each year.
In 2009 the event was elevated to championship status and is now known as the Bicentenary Pipeband Championships.
In addition the event gained Homecoming Scotland 2009 membership following a successful application via Argyll & Bute Council by Colina Helen Campbell and her committee and is now more popular than ever.
